What can you expect when you walk through the doors of Network Medical Women’s Center? We’ve been told peaceful. You are NOT a number at Network Medical.
We greet you and generally offer you a glass of cold water if you’d like. You are then asked to sign in on our tablet, as is the typical first steps at any medical clinic. Your appointment will be an hour or less.
You then meet a Registered Nurse who will be with you for the duration of your appointment.
In the first three minutes you will learn if you have a positive pregnancy test from your urine sample. If positive, after a medical history, you are offered an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy viability.
Why an ultrasound? An ultrasound is the only means to confirm a viable (living) pregnancy. One in five pregnancies end naturally in a miscarriage.
If you do have a viable pregnancy, the ultrasound will reveal the gestational age – how far along you are. This will determine the type and cost of an abortion you may be eligible for.
Network Medical wants to protect your future reproductive health, and therefore you will also be offered an STD test and treatment for the two most common treatable STD’s: Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, at no cost to you. All abortions (even the abortion pill) are invasive, meaning your cervix opens, and if an STD travels into your uterus, it could cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). PID is not only painful, but at its worst can cause infertility due to scarring it can cause in the lining of the uterus.
These three things are critical for you to make an informed decision. This is considered “Informed Consent”, a law in the state of CA. All of our services are done with your express permission only.
Lastly, with your permission, we will offer you information on the abortion procedure you may receive based on the gestational age of your pregnancy. Also, with your permission, we can offer you information on CA Adoption Law and Parenting Resources available in the community.
As you leave your appointment, we offer an exit survey to learn how we did. We ask for a score from 1, being the worst to 10 being the best. We are proud to share we receive 99.5% 10’s!
